What's the Difference between a Home Energy Audit and a Home Performance Assessment?Precision Air, as a BPI accredited business, can perform both Home Energy Audits and Home Performance Assessments. While some people confuse the two, there are very large differences in what the customer receives during and after the process.Energy Audit: An energy audit is a visual inspection that focuses on energy efficiency. It can help you understand the energy your home uses, and evaluate which measures you can take to improve efficiency. We will point out measures you can take to solve problems that are currently wasting your energy dollars. Long-term savings on many of these remedies can be substantial. The audit may include hot water inspection, gas leakage, carbon monoxide spillage into the home, equipment efficiency levels, and more. Home Performance Assessment (Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment): A home performance assessment is the highest level of energy analysis, and can be performed only by someone with specific testing and certification in several areas. The assessment takes 3-4 hours, and provides the homeowner a detailed cost-benefit analysis. A home assessment may qualify the homeowner for a Green/LEED/HERS or other rating. The assessment includes a complete visual inspection of all the components of the home, considers how they work together, and their effects on health and safety, building durability, comfort and energy efficiency, beyond that of a home energy audit. The assessment might also include advance pressure testing, heater, distribution and comfort diagnostics, IR, and moisture testing.
